Welcome | Head of Sport

St Luke’s is excited to welcome Hermann van Aswegen as our new Head of Sport!

August 19, 2025

Hermann will begin in October, preparing St Luke’s for its inaugural year of sport – from league registrations to the very first fixtures.

Hermann’s record as a coach and educator speaks for itself.  Currently Head Coach at CBC Old Boys Cricket Club (Premier League men’s team), and a long-time selector for the Titans regional teams, Hermann has guided players and teams to success at the highest level. He is also known for his leadership in growing school sport, having expanded the Midstream Cricket Week into one of South Africa’s largest primary school cricket festivals.

Alongside impressive cricket and rugby coaching credentials, Hermann holds multiple advanced degrees in Educational Management, and is a gifted Mathematics teacher.

What excites us most, however, is Hermann’s passion. He shares St Luke’s vision for a sports programme that is both excellent and inclusive, and he believes in cultivating character and excellence, on and off the field.

“Sport is central to a purpose driven education,” he says.  “We plan to compete at the highest levels, but also to equip students to build meaningful connections, discover their God-given potential, and cultivate habits that set them up for success in life.”

Hermann comes highly recommended from everyone he has worked with. Colleagues describe him as a man of integrity and ambition, highly respected, deeply committed to his family, and a loyal servant-leader to his teams.

Adding to the excitement, Hermann’s wife will also be joining the St Luke’s team as a teacher, making their move to our community a true family affair. We can’t wait for our students, parents, and staff to experience the warmth, dedication, and shared passion for education they both bring.
